Summary of the 148th Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival
A tremendous weekend of Scottish & Celtic culture, art, sport, dance and music put on by 700 competitors and performers entertained 15,000 spectators at Topaz Park over the May long weekend. Sean Betz of Omaha, Nebraska won the Victoria International Heavy Event Challenge and was named Games Athlete of the Day. Fiona Lee of Coquitlam, BC won the Games Trophy for highest overall points for Intermediate/Premier highland dancing; Ava Simmons of Mayerthorpe, Alberta won the Games Trophy for highest overall points for Beginner/Novice highland dancing. Simon Fraser University Pipe Band won the overall Grade 1 pipeband competition. Many thanks to all participants, clans and Scottish/Celtic organizations, sponsors, the City of Victoria, the provincial and federal governments, and the tremendous group of volunteers who make the longest running cultural event on the West Coast such a success. The Victoria Highland Games Association invites you to join us next year on May 19 and 20, 2012 at Topaz Park in Victoria!
