Membership in the Victoria Highland Games Association

The Association is dedicated to promote all aspects of Scottish Culture through competitions, education, parades, special events and the Highland Games & Celtic Festival! The first Victoria Highland Games was held in 1864 and our association has been running this mainstay of Victoria’s Scottish heritage since 1937.

The VHGA membership for 2011/12 begins December 1, 2011. Everyone is welcome to become a VHGA member and take a vital role in maintaining a strong Scottish culture and heritage in our community!

Highland dancers: please note that the VHGA is offering its members bursaries and scholarships to assist in your training and development. First 2011/12 dance competition is December 4, 2011 which is a closed competition for VHGA members only.

VHGA memberships are valid from December 1st thru to November 30th. Membership fees are due by December 1st of each year.

There are two classes of membership in the association:

Individual (non-competing) Member
Family with Competitor(s) Membership

Individual (non-competitor) Membership ($10 annual fee)
- Receive one free entry to the annual Highland Games (value of $10)
- Discount on entry fee to other VHGA events
- Opportunity to participate in the annual Tartan Parade downtown to the Parliament Buildings, and other special events.
- Right to vote at our AGM, and have a voice in how the association is run (one vote per membership)
Family with Competitor(s) Membership ($20 annual fee)
- Receive two free entries to the annual Highland Games (value of $20) in addition to free entry for competitors
- Receive entry fee discount per dance event for all three open VHGA competitions (Value of $15 per competitor)
- Receive entry fee discount to attend professional workshops in highland dancing, piping/drumming and heavy events
- Opportunity to participate in a closed Christmas dance competition for VHGA members only – besides the competition there is Santa and a Cakewalk!
- Opportunity to win VHGA dance bursaries to assist in your training and development
- Opportunity to participate as a performer in the annual Tartan Parade downtown to the Parliament Buildings, elementary school tours and other special events
- Right to vote at our AGM, and have a voice in how the association is run
