VHGA Indoor Dance Competition and Workshop - February 16 - 17, 2008
The 5th VHGA Winter Indoor Competition for Highland Dance, Piping and Drumming ran very smoothly at Lansdown Middle School and was attended by many talented competitors. With close to 100 dancers along with kilted pipers and drummers, the Scottish culture was alive and well in Victoria! Many thanks to dance judges Donna Cooper and Jill Young (who also taught a top-quality workshop), piping judge Dave Hennigan and drumming judge Bob Hyslop. Also, the volunteers who did the marshalling and other activities were the other stars of the competition, along with the VHGA board members who always step up to the plate and make it happen. Next VHGA competition for all three disciplines - the 71st Victoria Highland Games!
71st Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival - May 17 and 18, 2008
The 71st Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival will be held on the May long weekend in 2008 at our new location - Topaz Park in the City of Victoria! This new venue will provide the additional space and central location required to allow our association to expand the scope of the event activities and meet the logistics requirements to host the 2010 World Heavy Events Championship. Many thanks to the township of Esquimalt for hosting the Games over the last 4 years at Bullen Park.
The Celtic Festival to be held on May 17 will include a wide range of Scottish and Celtic music and dance entertainment along with various sporting activities; the Highland Games to be held on May 18 will include all the traditional Games activities. Stay tuned for a schedule of activities and information in the new year! If you are interested in volunteering or participating, please contact the appropriate member of the Board of Directors.
