The VHGA and Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's) Pipes and Drums held a formal Robbie Burn's Dinner on January 27th at the Officers Mess and Currie Dining Room in the Bay Street Armoury. The full house of 80 guests were all dressed inhighland dress, military uniforms, and formal dinner attire.
The evening began with Gaelic Choir singers entertaining at thereception in one of the top whiskey bars in Canada, and then guests were piped to dinner. Following the Toast to the Haggis, we were treated to a scrumptious gourmet dinner, complete with wine, and entertained throughout by "touring" pipers.
After dinner, VHGA member dancers from thethree main studios performed a Sword Dance and Highland fling. Top-notch speakers gave The Immortal Memory, Toast to the Lassies and the Reply and were then followed by a medley of piping and drumming by the CSR Pipes and Drums. Following everyone singing Auld Lang Syne, the pipes and drums again performed in the Armoury hollow square as everyone participated in thepaper aeroplane toss from the balcony (winner won a bottle of Highland Park single malt).
All in all, a very successful fund raiser for both organizations. |
