The VHGA is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to get personal instruction in the sport of Scottish heavy events from the current world heavy events champion - Ryan Vierra. Ryan's resume in the sport of heavy events is totally outstanding and includes:

Ryan will provide instruction in all the traditional heavy events for both those interested in perfecting their technique, as well as novices to the sport who want to learn from the best.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime training opportunity, so be sure to sign up quickly before all workshop spots are taken.
In addition, if you are new to the sport, you are automatically entered in the novice competition following the workshop if you are interested in participating.
Workshop fee is $50 per person or $40 for VHGA members, who also get two entry passes to the following day's Highland Games which will host the Western Canada Heavy Events Championship.
Novice Heavy Events Competition - May 19, 2007 2 pm to 4 pm
Have you always wanted to test your ability to throw a hammer, flip a caber and toss the weight for distance but were not quite sure how to do so? Are you interested in competing in the sport of Scottish heavy events in a learning environment with top quality instructors to assist you? The VHGA is holding a novice heavy events competition for athletes just like yourself.
World champion Ryan Vierra, and the top Canadian at the world championships, Joel Thiessen, will both be in attendance!.
The top competitor(s) may have the opportunity to compete at the Games Senior Amateur competition the next day if they meet certain standards and as space permits.
There is no entry fee for novice competitors. But, space is limited so get your entry form in quickly. Note: all workshop participants are guaranteed an opportunity to participate in the novice competition.
Senior Amateur Competition - May 20, 2007
The Senior Amateur competition will be held at the 70th Victoria Highland Games (8 am to 11 am). Competitors will be expected to have had some experience in the heavy event disciplines.
Competitors must register by May 14th; and the field of competitors will be limited to 12. If there is room on competition day, we will allow walk-on registration. This will be left to the discretion of the Heavy Events Chair.
Entry fee is $10 and includes an entry pass into the Games.
The events will be: open stone, heavy hammer, light weight for distance, weight for height and caber toss.
Western Canada Heavy Events Championship - May 20, 2007
Following the Senior Amateur Competition, the VHGA is proud to present the Western Canada Heavy Events Championship at the 70th annual Victoria Highland Games. Starting at 11 am on Games day, an elite field of invited professional athletes will compete for the title of Top Scottish Strongman in western Canada.
The events included will be: light stone, Braemar stone, light and heavy weight for distance, heavy hammer, weight for height and caber toss.
In addition, all the athletes, including Ryan, will compete in the keg toss and Challenge Caber Toss (this Victoria Games Challenge Caber has never been turned) for additional prize money.
This will be the best heavy events competition Victoria has ever hosted - you don't want to miss it!
