Piping and Drumming

The Victoria Highland Games is pleased to host the premier pipeband competition on Vancouver Island. Every year we welcome bands and individuals from the Pacific Northwest, and further afield, to compete at our games.

Thank you to the British Columbia Piper’s Association for helping us to run such a great Piping and Drumming competition. We look forward to seeing you again this year.

Heavy Events Competitions

The 2010 Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival will feature the 2010 IHGF Lighthouse Brewing Company World Heavy Events Championship, with the strongest field from around the world in the 30 year history of this world championship! See competitors from Scotland, England, Holland, Poland, New Zealand, Australia, United States and Canada competing over two days in all of the traditional events. In addition, over the two days, there will be heavy event competitions in Novice, Amateur B, Open/Amateur A, Master’s Men’s and Women’s classes. Competitors are coming from all over North America to be compete and be part of this world championship venue!

Kilted Mile

Saturday, May 22, 2010 – 1:00 pm

When you speak of the Scottish Highland Games, one image that comes to mind is that of a man in a kilt, as broad as he is tall, running while supporting in his cupped hands, something that resembles a utility pole, propped on his shoulder in a vertical position, until he plants his feet and flips it end over end.

But some of us are built more like “greyhounds” than “draft horses” and would love the opportunity to participate in the Scottish Highland Games. That’s where this competition comes in! The Kilted Mile is, quite simply, a mile run in a kilt.

Cash Awards: $100, $75 & $50 will be awarded to the overall first, second and third place Lads and Lassies. Age Group Awards (medals): To the top three lads and lassies in these age categories: 15 & under, 16-30, 31-45, 46-60, 61 & over. Also, a special Best Dressed Kilt Award.

Tug of War

Saturday, May 22, 2010 – 2:00 pm

Tug of War is a test of strength, determination and brute strength between two teams and a piece of rope. Many say that the ‘rope’ is the third party in this highly competitive sport that brings out the real spirit of the competing teams. Be warned. It is tough and demanding. No quarter is given.
