Closed VHGA 2011 Christmas Fling

Our next highland dance competition is the closed VHGA Christmas Fling
for VHGA members only on December 4, 2011. Click here for registration form.
This is a traditional event for members with free meal, Santa visit and traditional cakewalk after the competition. Bursaries based on the previous 4 VHGA dance competitions will be awarded, and this competition is the start of the next year's bursary cycle. You must renew/begin your VHGA membership prior to December to participate in this event. 59^th Annual Indoor Highland Dance Competition Results

Our fall VHGA competition on October 1, 2011 ran very smoothly and the highland dancers demonstrated high skill levels. Many thanks to our judges - Heather Richendrfer (Bellingham, Washington) and Andrea Tronnes (Woodlands, Texas), who taught the dance workshop the following day.

59^th Annual Indoor Highland Dance Competition/Workshop

Our fall competition/workshop will be held at Lansdowne Middle School. Judges are Andrea Tronnes from Woodlands, Texas and Heather Richendrfer from Bellingham, Washington. Andrea Tronnes will be instructing the workshop. Doors open at 8:30 am. Saturday, October 1, 2011. Morning Dances commence at 9:30 am.

A Scottish Ceilidh at the Armoury

A Scottish ceilidh will be held Saturday night, May 21 from 7 pm to midnight at the Bay Street Armoury (enter on Field Street side). Dancing to a contemporary band and special entertainment (including a pipeband performance) on the regimental parade square will make for a wonderful evening of song and dance. Cash bar. 19 years + only. Tickets are $15 at the door. Tilted Kilt Pub Crawl

The double decker bus tour of the Penny Farthing, Irish Times and Bard & Banker pubs is now SOLD OUT! Kilts, bagpipes and dancing lasses will liven up downtown Victoria in preparation for the Highland Games weekend!

The VHGA is pleased to announce that Lighthouse Brewing Company will be the title sponsors of the 2011 Victoria International Heavy Events Challenge, with a world class field of athletes that will include the current world champion and 2 past world champions. Lighthouse Brewing Company will again be brewing the Highland Challenge Scottish Ale to promote the Games and the Challenge. This awesome brew, which quickly sold out last year, will be available in May at selected private liquor stores and the 148^th Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival.

The closed VHGA Christmas Fling was a great success!
Congratulations to all dancers and to the six VHGA bursary winners: Christine Maas, Genevieve Lisik, Sarah Bryan, Cameron Kearns, Sophia Speir-Nicholson, Sean Bryan. Thanks to Santa for dropping in for gift giving and a massed highland fling, and to everyone that brought desserts for the traditional cake walk! Merry Christmas to all VHGA dancers and their families.
